County Sligo
The name Sligo is a derivative of the Irish name Sligeach, meaning "Shelly River", due to it's location along the river and bay. Its a kind of funny sounding name, but if you pass going to County Sligo - especially the town of Sligo - then you have truly missed a treat. I loved it so much that I went back twice!
I stayed in Tubbercurry, a medium sized village, for four nights and had a wonderful time! Kay was my Airbnb hostess and she could not have been lovelier. She always had tea waiting for me upon my return, and was anxious to hear about my day, my impressions of Ireland and even my smallest discoveries. It was so wonderful to drink tea with Kay and sit next to her older stove. (She burned paper - no peat.) We'll get to peat later. Kay even invited a priest to tea so we could meet and see if he could help me with recommendations on possible parishes to visit. Since there were no centralized records of births, baptisms, marriages or deaths prior to the mid-1800s, everything was contained locally and some still have not be submitted for inclusion in digital libraries.
